Privacy Policy
Plain-language transparency about what we collect, how it is used, the cookies and advertising partners involved, and the rights you have over your data.
This Privacy Policy explains how Honestly Profitable ("we," "us," or "our") handles information when you visit honestlyprofitable.com (the "site"). We have written it to be genuinely readable rather than a wall of legalese, because the honesty we apply to our content applies here too. By using the site, you agree to the practices described below.
The short version
- No accounts. You never need to register or log in to use this site.
- We do not store your Business Finder answers. The finder runs entirely in your browser. Your answers are never sent to us or saved anywhere, and they disappear when you close the page.
- We never ask for your financial information. We do not request income, bank details, or payment information.
- We use privacy-respecting analytics and may show advertising. These partners may set cookies. You can control or opt out of them, details below.
- We do not sell your personal information.
Information you provide directly
You can browse the entire site and use the Business Finder without giving us any personal information. The only time we receive information from you is if you choose to email us (for example, to send a correction, ask a question, or suggest a business). In that case we receive whatever you put in your message, typically your email address and its contents, and we use it solely to respond to and act on your message. We do not add you to a mailing list or use it for marketing.
Information collected automatically
Like almost all websites, our hosting provider and analytics tools automatically receive standard technical information when you visit, which may include your IP address (often truncated or anonymized), browser type and version, device type and operating system, referring page, the pages you view, and the date and time of your visit. This data is used in aggregate to keep the site secure, diagnose problems, and understand which content is useful.
Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small text files stored on your device. We do not use cookies to build a personal profile of you, but our analytics and (where enabled) advertising partners may set the following types:
- Analytics cookies, help us understand aggregate, anonymous usage so we can improve the site.
- Advertising cookies, set by Google and other advertising vendors to serve and measure ads, and (unless you opt out) to personalize them.
You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings, and you can block them entirely. Disabling cookies will not prevent you from reading the site or using the Business Finder, it may only affect how ads are personalized.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics for Firebase to understand aggregate, anonymous usage, such as which pages are visited and general engagement. Analytics may set cookies or similar identifiers and collect standard technical data (such as approximate location, device, and browser type) as described in Google's Privacy Policy. We do not send your Business Finder answers, or any financial or personal information, to analytics. You can opt out of Google Analytics across all sites using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Advertising and Google AdSense
To keep the site free and independent, we may display advertising, including through Google AdSense. The following applies to that advertising:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website and other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our site and/or other sites on the internet.
- Google's third-party advertising cookies (such as those used by the DoubleClick / Google Ad Manager system) may be used for ad personalization and measurement.
- Third-party vendors and ad networks other than Google may also serve ads or use cookies on the site.
You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can learn more about how Google uses data when you use our site at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites and about advertising cookies at policies.google.com/technologies/ads. To opt out of personalized advertising from many other vendors, visit aboutads.info/choices or youronlinechoices.eu (EU). As of the date below, ads are configured to be off by default and are enabled only if and when the site is approved for a program such as AdSense.
Consent for visitors in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland
Where required by law, we and our advertising partners will ask for your consent before setting non-essential cookies (including personalized-advertising cookies), consistent with Google's EU user consent requirements. You may withdraw or change your consent at any time through the cookie/consent controls presented to you or your browser settings.
How we use information
- To operate, maintain, secure, and improve the site.
- To understand aggregate usage and which content is helpful.
- To respond to messages you send us.
- To display and measure advertising that funds the site.
- To comply with legal obligations and protect against fraud or abuse.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it to make automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you.
Legal bases (EEA/UK visitors)
Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on: your consent (for non-essential cookies and personalized ads); our legitimate interests (to run, secure, and improve the site and understand aggregate usage); and legal obligation (to comply with applicable law).
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal data; to object to or restrict certain processing; and to withdraw consent. Because we do not maintain accounts and hold very little personal information, there is usually little for us to act on, but you can exercise any right by contacting us via our contact page, and you may also complain to your local data-protection authority.
California residents (CCPA/CPRA): you have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. We do not sell your personal information. Some advertising cookie activity may be considered "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising under California law; you can opt out using the advertising controls described above. We honor recognized opt-out signals such as Global Privacy Control (GPC) where applicable.
Data retention
We keep automatically collected analytics data only as long as needed for the purposes above, subject to our providers' standard retention periods. Emails you send us are kept only as long as needed to handle your request and any reasonable follow-up.
Data security
The site is served over encrypted HTTPS, and we rely on reputable providers for hosting and analytics. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but because we collect so little personal data, the risk to you is minimal by design.
International transfers
Our providers (such as Google) may process data in the United States and other countries. Where required, such transfers rely on appropriate safeguards, such as the data-protection terms and standard contractual clauses those providers maintain.
Third-party links
The site links to third-party websites and data sources. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites; please review their policies. Links are provided for reference and are not endorsements.
Children
This site is intended for adults and is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site, our providers, or the law change. When we do, we will revise the "last updated" date below, and material changes will be reflected on this page. Continued use of the site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
